Weekly Suit Gundam #17 – Gundam Wing Review & Discussion

It’s time for Weekly Suit Gundam, a show exploring the world of Mobile Suit Gundam from The Weekly Stuff Podcast with Jonathan Lack & Sean Chapman. You can subscribe for free in iTunes by following this link

It’s a big moment for our journey through the world of Gundam, as we finally reach New Mobile Report Gundam Wing – aka Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, or just Gundam Wing – the 1995 anime that finally brought Gundam to the mainstream in the West when it premiered on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in 2000. At once a throwback to many iconic pieces of Yoshiyuki Tomino’s original Gundam formula and a bold break with the structure of every Gundam series up to this point, Gundam Wing is a very different experience than anything we’ve talked about before. Initially exhilarating before growing increasingly frustrating, the show is one of the messier entries in the Gundam canon, but nevertheless fascinating to talk about. And the OVA/movie sequel, Endless Waltz, is a real treat for those who stick with it all the way to the end.

Enjoy!

After a brief discussion of games we’ve been playing like Bayonetta and Yakuza 5 – and a preview of a Star Wars-themed paper Jonathan is writing with a very weird title – it’s back into the wide, wacky world of Gundam, as we finally reach Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, the 1995 anime that finally brought Gundam to the mainstream in the West when it premiered on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in 2000. At once a throwback to many iconic pieces of Yoshiyuki Tomino’s original Gundam formula and a bold break with the structure of every Gundam series up to this point, Gundam Wing is a very different experience than anything we’ve talked about before. The Weekly Stuff Podcast #325 - Next-Gen Console Production, Yakuza, Vanquish, and a game about Quibi

It’s time for another episode of The Weekly Stuff Podcast with Jonathan Lack & Sean Chapman, a weekly audio show that explores the worlds of film, television, and video games. You can subscribe for free in iTunes by following this link.

It was a light week in video game news, though a report about improved working conditions at Rockstar Games and some insight into Sony’s production strategy for the PS5 gives us a chance to talk about how games are made and what the future is looking like with next-gen consoles. We also talk about the games we’ve been playing during the shut-in, with Sean returning to Kamurocho for Yakuza 5 and Jonathan discovering the awfulness that is Resident Evil 5 and the awesomeness that is Platinum Games’ recently re-released Vanquish. And finally, just for laughs, we make fun of the very stupid, very not-successful streaming service Quibi with a game pitting the real, incredibly silly shows on the service versus fake, equally silly shows that aren’t.

Enjoy!

The Weekly Stuff #324 – PS5 Controller, Resident Evil 4, Google Stadia & Listener Mail

It’s time for another episode of The Weekly Stuff Podcast with Jonathan Lack & Sean Chapman, a weekly audio show that explores the worlds of film, television, and video games. You can subscribe for free in iTunes by following this link

It’s a fun grab-bag style episode this week, as we have one big ticket news item – the reveal of the PlayStation 5 controller – and a lot of other random topics, including some great listener mail! First, we tell some more stories from life in the Coronavirus lockdown, including Jonathan drowning his classmates in Terraria. Then, we look back on the masterpiece that is Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, which Jonathan just played for the first time, and discuss the rumor that Capcom may be developing a remake which sounds wholly unnecessary and foolhardy. After debating the apparent strengths and weaknesses of Sony’s new PS5 controller, the ‘DualSense,’ we talk about our experiences trying out Google Stadia during its new free trial period, and we close with a big batch of awesome listener mail questions, ranging from serious to silly.

Enjoy!

Weekly Suit Gundam #16 – Mobile Fighter G Gundam Review & Discussion

It’s time for Weekly Suit Gundam, a show exploring the world of Mobile Suit Gundam from the The Weekly Stuff Podcast with Jonathan Lack & Sean Chapman. You can subscribe for free in iTunes by following this link

The time has finally come for us to dive into the wacky and wonderful world of Alternate Universe Gundam, and to start this new phase in the life of the podcast, we’re going back to where AU Gundam began with 1994’s bizarre Shonen soap-opera classic Mobile Fighter G Gundam, one of the strangest, coolest, and most endearingly heartfelt entries in the entire Gundam franchise. With an awesome cast of characters, great storytelling, an astounding command of its own silly, soapy tone, and one of the best soundtracks in anime history, G Gundam isn’t much like any other Gundam show before or after – but it’s absolutely worth taking the time to fall in love with.

Enjoy!

The Weekly Stuff Podcast #323 – Resident Evil, Classic Doom, Game Delays, and Mobile Fighter G Gundam Review

This week is another crossover with our sister series, Weekly Suit Gundam, as we dive deep into the wacky and wonderful world of Alternate Universe Gundam for the first time with 1994’s bizarre Shonen soap-opera classic Mobile Fighter G Gundam, one of the strangest, coolest, and most endearingly heartfelt entries in the entire Gundam franchise. That discussion takes up the bulk of today’s extra-long show, but if you haven’t seen G Gundam, fear not! We also give another update on Life in the Time of Coronavirus, Jonathan talks about playing the remakes of Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3, Sean relays the joys of playing classic Doom and Doom II, and we talk about the indefinite delay of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II and what this means for AAA video game releases going forward in 2020.

Enjoy!

The Top 10 Characters I Want in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC

There are few games I love more than Super Smash Bros., and the DLC fighters Masahiro Sakurai and his team have been developing for Ultimate over the past year have been a constant delight. With the announcement late last year that the DLC would be continuing into a second season (or, as they call it, Fighters Pass 2), with six more fighters coming through 2021, I thought now would be a good time to make a personal wish list, and share with you the characters I most want to see added to the already incredible roster.

So without further ado, here are the Top 10 Characters I Want in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:
