Live Blog (COMPLETED) - The "2012 Academy Award Nominations" Announcement - Watch them here and follow along with my commentary!

This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce their nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards, and I am be live-blogging the reveal of those nominees right here, providing up-to-the-minute news and commentary on the announcements as they hit.  You can watch the very same announcements I'm blogging via the YouTube embed above, which streams the announcement show live!  I don't have any fancy live-blogging technology, though, so you'll just have to refresh the page every few minutes; stone age, I know, but it's the best I can do.

As you probably know, I'm not to fond of the Oscars, but since I host a film website, I'm sort of obliged to follow them.  I've tried making it more entertaining for myself this year, though, revealing over the past two weeks my "Dream Oscar Nominees," the people/movies I would like to see recognized in a perfect world.  You can read my picks for the Technical Categories here, the Music and Sound Categories here, the Acting Categories here, and the Big (Best Picture, Screenplay, Director) Categories here.  Will any of my picks actually be nominated for the REAL Oscars?  We'll see in just a few minutes....

6:27 AM - Alright, I'm up, everything is set up, and I'm ready to live-blog this sucker.  Remember, you can watch the announcements too via the YouTube embed above, and you'll have to refresh this page every few minutes to see my live-blog updates.  Sound good?  I've never done this before, but I think it will work....

6:29 AM - Only a few seconds to go....please, God, let YouTube work just this once...

6:33 AM - They haven't started quite yet....while we're waiting, let's discuss who's involved in this event.  The nominees are set to be announced by Academy-Award nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence, star of the upcoming "Hunger Games" movie (which, ironically, will not be getting any Oscars), and AMPAS president Tom Sherak.  That pairing of young and old, beautiful and....er, less beautiful should be interesting to watch.

6:36 AM - Okay, here we go!  There's video, we're looking at the stage, no one has come out yet.  They have just given the "Three Minute Warning" to air...

6:37 AM - While we're still waiting, let me briefly explain how this will work: Lawrence and Sherak will only announce ten of the Big Categories, like Acting, Screenplay, Director, Picture, while all the craft categories will be announced via press release.  I'll have the full list of nominees, with commentary, up after this live blog completes.  Oooh, he just said "one minute to air!  Yippee!

6:50 AM - Tom Sherak has just come out to get things started, and he's bringing out Jennifer Larence, who looks very, very pretty...okay, I've never done this before, they're doing this all very, very fast, so I'm just going to put up all the nominees at once:

Best Animated Feature - "A Cat in Paris," "Chico and Rita," "Kung Fu Panda 2," "Puss in Boots," "Rango"

Best Picture - "War Horse," "The Artist," "Moneyball," "The Descendants," "The Tree of Life," "Midnight in Paris," "The Help," "Hugo," "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"

Some very nice surprises in that Best Picture field.  Nine nominations was completely unexpected, but having "Hugo," "The Tree of Life," and "Midnight in Paris" in there are also very nice surprises.
