Who am I?
My name is Jonathan R. Lack and I’ve been writing on publishing on film, TV, and video games since I was 10 years old, starting out at The Denver Post’s Colorado Kids and continuing ever since. With Sean Chapman, I am the co-host of Japanimation Station, a seasonal podcast about the wide world of anime, and the co-host of all 500 amazing episodes of The Weekly Stuff Podcast. And I’m the author of the book 200 Reviews, which collects the best of 20 years of writing - even the best stuff I never published! - all in one enormous collection.
In my professional life, I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Iowa’s Department of Cinematic Arts, after earning my BA and MA summa cum laude from the University of Colorado. In my academic work I specialize in Japanese Film History, Animation Theory, and Transnational Cinema, have written extensively on directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, and am currently writing my dissertation, Newtypes: Digital Technology and the Evolution of the Language of Anime.
